I booked The Backpacker Hostel & Spa in Da Nang for 3 nights (Oct 13–16) but had to check out the same night after only a few hours because there was a large amount of toxic black mold on the ceiling. It was extremely unsafe to stay — When we explained the situation, the staff refused to refund the full stay and charged us for half a a day , even though we were there less than 6 hours. They also marked us as “no-shows”, which means I can’t even post my experience on Hostelworld to warn others. I rarely leave bad reviews, but this was a serious health and safety issue. Travelers deserve to know what they’re walking into. Hopefully, the management takes this seriously and addresses the mold problem — it’s not safe for anyone to stay there in those conditions.

Bed was comfy, storage under bed was decent, staff were nice but there wasn't much of a vibe Did meet some cool people there though!
Arrived today was taken straight to our room. We went out for a few hours and came back so hadn’t noticed much of the room or facilities. The beds don’t have personal lights or shelves and the under bed storage is tiny! The room was warm as the aircon didn’t work very well and there was mold on the ceiling, also full of Russians. We tried the showers and the shower head kept falling down wouldn’t stay up and it looks nothing like the pictures. Whole place as whole is run down there where also ants all over the floor in the room. The location isn’t great either and the “spa” is a shop next door that wasn’t even open. We packed and left. They only gave us 50% refund
The bed was comfy, but I had mixed vibes from the staff—some were nice, others unfriendly, and overall not helpful. You can’t book buses here, and they won’t assist with excursions or tips unless they’re on their own list. With four different WiFi connections, you’d expect at least one to work properly, but none did. The pool is a plus, but the food is extremely overpriced—you can walk around the corner and get better food for a fifth of the price. The room couldn’t be made dark, and the bathroom was flooded. I left after one night. My Hostelworld booking was even cancelled by the staff so I couldn’t leave a review there. They also only encourage reviews if you’re happy and ask you not to leave one if you’re not. Fine for a stopover, but the overall vibe was really off.
This is a quality hostel and probably the best one in the area I think. The ladies at reception are super friendly. You can borrow a bike to explore, so worth it! Would stay again.
First i went for it cause it was in a calm residential area, checked in mid day, i don't have time i'm working, i paid and left to work until late night, got back, slept, then in the morning the girl woke me up to tell me that my bed is already reserved by somebody else so i have to check out, HOW IN A MILLION YEARS YOU WOULD MAKE A RESERVATION UPON SOMEBODY WHO IS ALREADY OCCUPIYING THE BED???!!!!!!, I've never seen such thing, i paid for one night and i made it clear to the staff, that i just chenged hostel, and i'm extending my stay if i could get a good sleep (which was basically my probelm with other hostels), and logically do not expect somebody to pay longterm on a hostel he doesn't know yet, we always pay for one night and then if we like it we extend...
semi social hostel. no spa unless you count the random store next door. weird location - not downtown nor near the beach. honestly don’t know what makes this place is so popular because it cannot possibly be the facilities. stayed in the female dorms. fellow travellers were cool, the room was not. for starters the ac was broken so we all had to sweat out every night. the mattress was so soft and saggy my tailbone complained every morning. someone left open food and drinks for days, and staff never cleared it. I was there four nights. there were plenty of showers and bathrooms- even some private ones but the standard of cleanliness just ain’t that high. i mean there was literally a bottle of tomato sauce among the shampoos the entire time i was there. like what? rooftop bar is okay. i did like chilling there. but not super clean. quite a few ants. food was overpriced and underwhelming. no water refills. early check in costs extra. daily activity board oversells itself. wake up drink is black coffee. welcome drink is 4-5pm, when nobody is around (it’s perfect beach time), and is a watered down cocktail. the detox jug of cucumber water is always running low and they don’t refill it. i admit i am a complainer - it’s liveable and there seems to be a steady stream of backpackers coming in and out. but i wouldn’t stay here again.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was delicious. The hair wash and massage at the spa were truly relaxing. I will definitely come back.
The place looked nothing like the pictures on hostel world, there was mold everywhere in the dorms, the hallways and the bathrooms. The staff was okay but not great service. The hotel manager refused to give us a refund when we wanted to check out earlier because of the issue with the mold. There was no light by the bed in the dorm but the beds are big. It didn’t work to lock our door to the room or our dryer in the cabins under and besides the bed.
I had a good time. Met very interesting people. Rooms were clean and bathrooms were clean. Rooftop has a nice view of the mountains. Pool is not really a pool for usage and the drinks and stuff were overpriced on the roof but everything else was nice.
The hostel was nice, though the location felt a little secluded. The staff were genuinely kind and helpful, definitely the highlight of the stay. The room I got was quite small with limited space to move around, but the beds were …
Very comfortable bed. Door locking dorm room feels safe. Sizeable locker fits carry on and small backpack. No problems with cleanliness. Shower and washroom were well maintained. Thanks Tu, Kieu, and Hien easy communication.
